i believe most servers have this limited to opers only
Well, i won't for sure do that on my server. Or atleast before i restarted the dline/kline.confs. It will flood mad.

I think that if childporn is "noticed", it would be a wise decition of the Network Staff to remove it emmediately. But otherwise, I understand the policy of the Network. No, i would notify my local contact at the police office for these matters. They know what todo. I would NOT throw them out on si...

some have suggested we use an on-connect mechanism to ensure it's really a human connecting to the IRC server, and not an automation. For example, while registering the new connection, the IRC server would display a random 'ascii-art' figlet generated passphrase, which the user would have to read, ...

No, i dont want opers, admin or anyone to be able to op them self or anyone in any channel. However i do like the feature of some opers/admisn having the abillity to take over a (drone-) channel. A "vote" like G-line works. However there needs to be stated poilcies for acceptable use before its take...

Saving CPU in all honor but really, the server today on EFnet uses sub 2-3% of the CPU in average. true enough, but depending on the implementation of regexp, it can be a huge hit. can you imagine what would happen on a server with 10000 users if every connect/join was passed through a perl mod? (d...

But also remember the CPU load regular expressions would impart on a server. The original +d in Hybrid 6 used regular expressions (early betas) but it was changed to match() (wildcards * and ?). What WOULD help and not cost much is an improved match(), like oomon's current implementation. You would...

Do i have to have that "please" in my rules? The word "please" does not fit in rules. You dont ask your users to apply to rules. They SHALL apply. It's just common courtesy to use polite language. Even if you are the admin of a server that is provided for the users for free, if you are rude, demand...

then hope it gets put in to the motd or stop bitching about it. you are given a method for removal of the clients and you choose not to use it, how is this a fault of the software? Im beting its a one-line patch to remove that check. Secondly its not fault by the software. Its faulty by the users w...

The topic length was set to 80 and later 120 due to that in the old days memory was a problem. It isn't today. The channels i use (my local friends and i in them) really takes advantages of the 255 chars topic length we have on irc.csbnet.se. I have yet to see that its not enough. Every msg seems to...

First, bottler doesn't use more bandwidth than any other client do. When bottler wants to download something it does so from the sharing bots, seting up another connection that has nothing todo with the irc-server. But you are perfectly right. These are a bot that very well get the eyes of irc-opers...
