irc.arcti.ca opens up again

After years of being closed to shaw/peers/torix only, the oldest remaining canadian server, irc.arcti.ca has decided to open their server yet again to the world.

The norges are ganging up against us! Yes indeed :) The norwegian community have allways been a large part of efnet, and even tho most of you wouldnt mind seeing our country nuked i would like to keep those users here in the future aswell. We are loosing way to many to icq, msn, aim, orkut, friends...

*.banetele.no renames to *.efnet.no

ircd and irc.banetele.no have been renamed to ircd and irc.efnet.no. At the same time they've launched a norwegian efnet portal at http://www.efnet.no where there will be news and profiles for norwegian ircers.

[Update: It seems their plan is to link Undernet when they leave here. They will be keeping the irc.concentric.net dns on the undernet server so unless you want your client to jump to another network you should remove it from your clients/bots] They've had an undernet server for 7 years apparently,...

My conclusion, I would rather think that the increased DDoS the last years are related to easier accessibility to DDoS code, and more efficent DDoS code (spreading) and not too much about the local IRC oper. Chris "comstud" Behrens whom is the primary administrator for the Concentric servers has announced that they plan to shutdown their irc servers in two weeks. Concentric, which has also been known as *.xo.net, has been a part of efnet since August 1995 and has played an important role on this network...

EFnet removes services.xo

A vote ended yesterday removing the old services.xo from the network. services.xo was mainly used for nickjupes and clonefunctions by some servers, but this has been replaced by OpenServices which was voted in some months back.

The removal of services.xo will have no impact on users.

When we kline a bunch new one comes all the time. The most efficent way is to report them to the serverowner/isp, but that takes alot of time...

After a 3 month trial irc.ac.za have been granted a permanent link status to the network. The server is open to all african clients and our first server on this continent. Good luck :)

irc.arcti.ca is down due to hardware failure. The administration of the server does not know exactly when a replacement server will be up but are working as fast as they can.
