D-Lined to all of efNet.... I Think

Postby refractive » Fri Oct 21, 2005 1:29 am

I'm not really sure what’s happened, I downloaded mIRC yesterday and logged in to irc.he.net. Everything was fine; I was online for a grand total of 22mins. Then to day I tried to log in and it kept timing out, I messed around with some settings thinking it was on my end and I kept trying. I only get a response when I connect on port 6666 every other port just times out. The response I get is a bit fugue, most of the time it just says

"* [10054] Connection reset by peer"

and other times it says

"ERROR You have been D-lined.
-
* [10054] Connection reset by peer"

I've tried connecting to almost every EFnet server and get the same thing.

I'm at a complete loss; I have no idea why I would have been banned.

Can anyone shed some light on my situation?

This is a problem on your (or your ISP's) end. The servers are listening on other ports, that is for sure. Maybe some kind of firewalling on your end or at your ISP?

This error is a winsock error on your end. It could possibly happen if there is a break in the network between you and the IRC server or if your internet connection drops.
and other times it says

"ERROR You have been D-lined.

A D-line is a ban on a range of IPs. This is probably not a ban directly on you, but rather on your ISP or on your area of the world because of a large amount of abuse originating there.

Not sure what to tell you as far as getting on IRC. Maybe you could use the web-based client at http://chat.efnet.org or http://webchat.xs4all.nl to get on EFNet and ask the server admin or opers of the servers you are D-lined on why you are banned on their specific server (via /stats p irc.server.name, which will show you opers and admins on that server and their idle time in seconds, and then you can msg them)

I've just contacted an OP but no reply as yet, i also went to that IP Black list "Black hole" site for efNet and put in my IP address in but it didn't find it. So i'm guessing that my IP hasn't been baned.

hi,

it would be a lot easier to help you if you posted your IP or Hostname.

it would be, but wouldn't that also be against forum rules?

i don't think we get that picky

and besides, ip is available via the forum (at least to forum admins) by click the 'ip' link at the top of the post.
the ip he is posting from is not in any of the common blacklists and does not have an open proxy
