connection refused

Postby pb99 » Wed Oct 01, 2003 4:21 am

I have not used irc in quite a while. I am trying to get back into the irc world and log into any ef server and I get the same message:

Connecting to irc.umich.edu (6667) <------this is one example
-
* Unable to connect (Connection refused)

It does not seem to matter what ef host I try to connect to I get the same message. If you know something I am doing wrong or if I somehow got banned can I redeem myself or get this fixed?
Thank you in advance. :?

Well, you can't use umich if you're not in MichNet anyway, so it's likely that you're not.

We have a server list off of the main page. There are some servers you will be able to connect to, and some you won't. Keep trying.

could you possibly have a router or firewall on your network that is blocking outgoing connections on normal IRC ports? Try some of the 'alternative' ports that are listed in this thread: http://www.efnet.info/forum/viewtopic.php?t=119 . Or, check/change the settings on your router/firewall or ask your network administrator to do it to allow IRC connections on normal IRC ports.

Mod: here are some more links to threads on the old forum about this topic:

(keep in mind that this is really old info, and is possibly not correct. also, some of the servers listed don't exist anymore, or have changed name/admin/location/policies)

Try irc.efnet.nl or irc.limelight.us :)
