Banned because of Clones

TCM's and OOmon's often communicate with SERVICES (/msg SERVICES@services.xo help) and will ban user@host clones on multiple servers (The default is to allow up to 3, banning 4 or over). It may be a good idea to limit the number of bots runnable under one account, and disallow sharing of BNC connections.
Re: Banned because of Clones
Avoid vuurwerk/efnet.nl, they can be compared to nazis over vhosts. No big deal crying over that efnet server.Ntje wrote: (18:32:28) (-psyBNC) Fri Nov 7 18:32:30 :User Ntje () got disconnected (from efnet.vuurwerk.nl) Reason: Closing Link: 62.41.27.20 (*** Banned )

Re: Banned because of Clones
There really is no good reason why a single user would need to connect more than 2 clients to EFnet from the same machine/account. Having 2 clients/connections guards against missing a scintillating conversation if one server splits, but any additional clients will face diminishing returns very quickly.Ntje wrote:Hey, we're an Shell renting compagny and people who r on efnet thrue a BNC are getting banned because of clones:
The most likely cause for the clone bans is multiple users sharing BNC connections through the same account (perhaps resulting in 3, 4, 5 or more client connections via a PsyBNC). If you think it is wise for you (as a business) to allow such an amount of connections via your IP range, you might consider adding additional usernames per customer. In the long run, however, you will probably find it easier on yourselves to apply reasonable limits to how many clients people can connect to EFnet via your service.
irc.efnet.nl is also not the only IRC server on EFnet. In fact, you should be able to connect on most client servers, as long as there isn't too much redundant cloning going on.
Either way, good luck.
