Can Login but can't do any commands

I can log into EFnet using mirc but once it I cannot post any commands at all and can't join any room and pretty soon after that I get disconnected.

what is the message you get when you are disconnected?

Well the thing is I wonder if it is mIRC, I've reinstalled it but I get:

* [10053] Software caused connection abort

Also if I am on another server I don't have the problem, that is why I think it is something with EFnet

Ok just another update, I can do other commands in efnet just not join anywhere. I can type /help and it is fine but /join #channel won't work

And yet another discovery, it says I have an unknown hostname, so I wonder if that has anything to do with it?

/help is a client command, /join is a server command

when you say "another server", what specifically are you referring to? EFnet has dozens of servers to choose from. which one or ones are you trying to connect to?
