How can I find the time when I connected?

Hi everybody,

me (and my colleagues) are connecting to EFnet where we have a work-related channel. We got a warning from our IT folks since apparently there's a certain IRC server on their blacklist that our machines have been connecting to, and now we need to prove that it was in fact our IRC clients and not some kind of trojan doing that.

Being clever, I managed to accidentally wipe the "scrollback" log of my chat client. Is there any way I can get the information about when my computer connected to the network from the server? I have a static IP address.

If your client's logging was turned on at the time, yes; if not, no. On the other hand, if your IT staff chooses to bestir themselves, they may have a log.

In the meanwhile I found the /whois command - doesn't that tell me exactly what I'm looking for, or am I mistaken?

it will tell you how long you have been connected. but if you disconnect and reconnect, it won't when you were online previously. there is a /whowas, but that is not persistent data (ie - you can't search back more than a day or so)
