IRC Bouncers (BNC)

Postby HM2K » Wed Sep 10, 2008 11:40 am

I was wondering a little history about IRC bouncers (BNC)...

Does anyone know who coined the term? How it came about?

Does anyone know which was the oldest/first IRC bouncer?

Which BNC's are most notable and why?

Which BNC (if any) do you use and why?

Probably psybnc.. it seems to be the most popular.. although I used to use ezbounce.
There is a fairly newer BNC out available called ZNC. It it pretty good. It has a built in themeable webserver for configuration.
It supports ssl, ipv6, plugins, etc.. http://en.znc.in/wiki/ZNC

I like shroudBNC because it offers a lot of features. Doesn't seem widely used on EFNet though :o

I use ShroudBNC myself, mainly because it's simple to use.
