EFnet approves channelmode +e and +I

Postby Hardy » Fri Aug 01, 2003 10:09 pm

EFnet global voting approved new channel mode +e and +I to be globally implemented.

Channel mode +e stands for ban exception, which makes certain
user!identd@host exempt from the banlists in a channel.

Channel mode +I allows you to set a invite exception on user!identd@host so you dont need a bot to get invited to a +i channel.

Also, the maxbans limit have been set from 25 to 100 to cover the additional modes. Channel modes +b, +e and +I all goes on the same list. The implementation schedule was set to two weeks from today in the vote.

EFnet.info has a thread about +e here: http://www.efnet.info/forum/viewtopic.php?t=34

I see this as a very positive step. EFNet has always been hesitant and slow-moving to change. I'm very glad that these highly useful tools will be available to users and opers alike.

I'm looking forward to it.

Wow! For the first time, it seemed that one of my opinions for EF-Net made a difference! Well, at least made a difference in my favor. :)

This is the way it *should* be. EFNet is nothing without users. Users should have the most say in what happens.

(snip)
The implementation schedule was set to two weeks from today in the vote.
OK, so here we are, August 19th (original post was Aug 1st), and it looks like only 1/4 of the servers has upgraded to +e/+I. The vote results still hasn't been posted.

Too bad, a good project is half-scrapped at this point. Now I have to connect to each server and pick the ones who already upgraded so I can add more than 25 bans in a chan.

... except that the hybrid patch JUST got posted. Hard to have a two week upgrade for servers where there's no patch!

Ratbox servers have eI already.
