why doesnt efnet run hybserv2?
i was just wondering why efnet doesnt run hybserv2 for nickserv/chanserv/operserv/etc. is there any particular reason?
My point being that EFnet was primarily meant not to host any services. The answer is clear enough, we dont want services (except uhm... Actually, we had Nickserv through about 1994-1995 or so.sealie wrote:My point being that EFnet was primarily meant not to host any services. Again, as to the meaning of the network's name, there was a server from UC Berkeley named eris. We got rid of it. Thus, we are eris free.

Minor update, the % issue is finally resolved. There are still a number of other issues, that would force it to not work well on large networks.Hwy wrote:Not to mention Hybserv2 has a number of unresolved issues and bugs, including "difficulties" in dealing with channels with % characters in them.
As for whether nick and channel ownership is fitting with EFnet's philosophy, that's for the admins to decide.
If you want to read tons of threads on this very subject, check out the old forum (http://www.efnet.info/?module=oldforum)

If you wanted to guarantee that your nick would be yours, you should've used a different network two years ago. Of course, there are ways to protect your nick, like running a detached client, etc.simulacra wrote:Yea, thanx for not having nickserv, someone just stole my nick since 2 yrs back and is now using it for his changuard bot.
Thank you very much...
