i dunno about the rest of you folks.. but i've noticed an increased amount of spamming.. #CZ is blasted with it and #EFNet has it's share. After consulting a few other channel 'maintainers'.. setting your channel to +p or +s seem's to help a bit. it doesn't stop them all but it does help. some of these spammers drones are set to hit certain channels so a +p/+s mode won't help much.

as for admins/opers.. could a channel be setup (with authorized clones to fill it up so it'll appear on a /list or what have ya) and create some sort of automated 'catching' system for these annoying bastards. trying to catch them by them using certain nicks/ident/hosts/gecos/CTCPs are about impossible. it's just an idea.

channel owners, try +p/+s. it doesn't hurt to try.

we have an automated system in place, but short of creating an ircd module for spying every privmsg for specific patterns, it can't be taken much further. and i don't see admins (or users) approving of a breach of privacy like that.

+s/+p doesn't help much especially when the channel is listed in the default mirc channel list.

Its very difficult to maintain a spam hunter on all 55 servers, when everything about the spammer is a variable. [nick!ident@host] [gecos] [ctcp response] [message] [url], it would also mean checking every user on every server that joined, it would also mean checking every string of text that was sent across the server, all in all, this just sounds like a pain.

If you are a target of spam, chances are, you are that for a reason. Work with opers to try and stop the problem at the source of the problem.
Try speaking to the owner of whatever they are spamming.

many times you can contact the abuse@ for the host of a website and get the site shutdown, at least temporarily.
