Question about the whole IRC thing :D

OK so I co-run a forum that has a load of content and I was thinking of the possibility of sharing that content over irc...

Now I last used mIRC nearly 8 years ago so I could be classed as a total n00b but here are the dreaded questions

Is mIRC the best client to use?
Can I use it to set up my own channel?
How do I get people onto that channel?

Anyway any (positive) feedback would be a joy to read.

Cheers

Clients are a matter of opinion but mIRC is the most widely used Windows client. Other choices are: xchat, klient, 0irc, HydraIRC, TinyIRC, Trillian, Chatzilla... etc, just google for the names and you can find them and try them. My personal choice is mIRC though, and it probably is the best Windows client.

Channels are easy to create on EFnet, just join one and its yours. It's that simple.

Since you mentioned the channel is for a forum the best place to get people into the channel from a forum is via a web interface chat applet. I think the most popular one of these is pjirc http://www.pjirc.com/main.php that's the site. Pretty easy to set up.

Good luck.

one slight clarification to the last post:
join a channel that doesn't exist and it's yours (joining an existing channel does not give you ownership).
