Just a general question...

Postby Matt » Thu Jan 26, 2006 4:33 am

Just a question and this has most likely been discussed before but my question is:

Why do you all allow warez?
Are you going to follow Dalnet's path and not allow it due to it being illegal?
Is the network that warez is on not responsible for its content?

Sorry for the questions and thank you for your time.

I'm not an efnet official, so i can't speak for the network, but I am guessing that the answer to this is that they don't specifically allow warez, they just don't actively disallow it, and they certainly don't promote it. opers are responsible for keeping the servers working, and not involved in censoring the content. Also, what is legal in one locale might be illegal somewhere else.

i think it varies server to server. the umich motd actually says "no bots", and for the most part, that's enforced. other servers are a little more lenient. i personally just keep my eyes open for hacked hosts. if you want to willingly host some warez on your machine, that's your own accord.
