If you could improve anything on EFnet, what would it be? could be a new usermode, a channel mode, a feature.. anything.. please try and keep it realistic :)

If you feel like it, include or discuss any of the following:
  • How long you have been on EFnet
  • Why you are still on EFnet (or why did you leave)
  • What would keep you from leaving
  • What would make you leave EFnet (if implemented)
  • (new) What do you think would help attract more people to EFnet?

Since '98..

I really like the throttling on non opped clients. It would be nice to extend that to voiced clients as well, perhaps with a channel mode. Please, correct me if this is already extended to voices.

[*] Since mid/late 90s
[*] Why leave? I'm not too absorbed in irc that it keeps me from doing anything else!
[*] Sort of linear to last answer
[*] More netsplits!

Other than this, I don't think I have really too much to add other than I've enjoyed my time spent here and the friends I've made!

I have been using EFnet since at least 1999. I'm there because it's stable and large enough to offer me protection from having my channel disappear due to attacks. There are channels there that I'm interested in.

I would be happier with more active anti-spambot protection (in some way), and with less global notices. (This is efnet, not freenode, you know ;) Perhaps more advanced CHANFIX would be nice (having users vote on someone to op if a truly opless channel is found that remains opless for more than CHANFIX's timeout?), but wouldn't be necessary.

I would probably leave if there were destabilizing changes or services.

I like the nick length the way it is, and quit msgs are too long already, wtf do you need it any longer for?
I could however definately go for longer TOPICLEN and higher MAXLIST.
With all the drones these days, ban lists get filled up quite a bit, and then we don't have room for the rest of the tards.

EDIT: oh, and higher CHANLIMIT
I know some servers are pretty high, but there are a few (you know who you are) that go as low as 20/25. Drives me nuts.

Been using EFNet since 1993. The network's fantastic.

Channel Improvements:
  • * After a kick, ability to set time limit before user can re-enter.
    * Additional mode for half-ops. A half-op could kick and ban, but not change the channel mode or mode of other users.
Edit: After adding my list, it dawned on me the programming hurdles and overhead involved with adding a kick rejoin time limit. Omit that suggestion.

Agreed on both.
The TOPICLEN needs to be standardized as well.

mostly good

Been using EFnet since 1996.

EFnet is great the way it is, no over-complicated services, etc.

One thing I often wish for is a flag for muting users, sort of the opposite of voice. Currently the easiest way to do this sort of thing is to maintain a moderated channel where everyone is normally voiced until devoiced, which is pretty ugly.

Also, resources allowing, more comprehensive user statistics ('whowas' history, etc)

Also I'd like some utilities which would make common attacks (mass join/part, etc) easier to predict, analyze, and avoid with some amount of sanity.

But that last one is a pipe dream, I think.

how about the idea of halfops? would that be something you would find useful for your channels?
