I also do not consider drinking on IRC as drinking alone.
Most of my time on IRC involves alcohol consumption.

Hey, we can even load up the webcam and have "virtual" drinking parties.

I have been ircing while drinking before going to a party several times before.. either waiting for someone or wanting to start before going there.

But i dont sit down infront of the computer with a bottle of vodka just to irc drunk ;)

Oh, and i have also been home late on saterdays drunk and irc`ed, does that count ?

yes, i think it counts. like you, i don't get drunk specifically to irc, but if i'm at home watching tv and having a couple of coctails, i've been known to pick up the laptop...

read http://www.irchelp.org, they have a lot of beginner info
