As of 6:00 PM EDT today, irc.opers.only is being introduced to EFnet. Ever want to have an O:line? Now's your chance! Ever want to be a vanity oper? Go right ahead! Simply /server irc.opers.only and /oper up. The password is lulz.
The admin of this server is Hardy, king of EFnet.
Following the recent vote, EFnet services have now been upgraded to support the OPME command. This will help server admins to resolve opless channel situations far more easily and make the process much smoother for users.
For those who are worried that this will fundamentally change the way EFnet has worked for years, rest assured this is not the case. The system has been designed to deter abuse of any kind, and will not be open for opers to gain channel operator status as they please. Amsterdam NL - mofo from XS4ALL tells EFnet News that his client server hardware has just been upgraded. The brand new machine sports dual quad core CPUs, 4GB of ram, and runs the latest offering from ircd-ratbox3. Their ipv6 server efnet.ipv6.xs4all.nl was also upgraded and supports SSL too. EFnet servers listen on port 9999 for SSL clients.
XS4ALL has been part of EFnet since the very beginning.
Opless channels just got easier to fix thanks to a chanfix module. OPME was approved by a landslide this morning and became EFnet policy. It provides tools for admins to reop channels which are without chanfix scores or chanops. Users whom require assistance may use the command /stats p to find a local IRCop or Admin.
Chicago IL - ServerCentral linked irc.serious.biz earlier this afternoon to test netmunky's updates and patches for ircd-hybrid. A few servers on EFnet still use ircd-hybrid, and there had been some compatibility problems with the way it interacts with ircd-ratbox. The test server is open I:line and accepts connections from anywhere in the world. IRC is serious business.
